Children with a history of painful treatment soak-up a week's worth of encouragement and affirmation.  They leave camp with an impression of God's love and a spark of hope for the future.

Where do the children come from?

RFKC Omaha coordinates with Omaha area Social Service workers to invite 7-11 year-old children in foster care. Each year, children who attended camp in the past and are still in the age range, are invited to attend camp again.

How are children supervised?

RFKC Omaha has a camper/counselor ration of 2:1 with 20 or more additional support staff. Children are always accompanied by at least two adults and never left unsupervised. The volunteer staff team includes a professional nurse and a professional counselor.

What do children experience at camp?

Activities at RFKC Omaha are purposefully designed to be non-competitive, non-threatening and allow children to experience success. Each fun-filled day includes:

  • Swimming
  • Fishing
  • Paddle boating
  • Non-competitive sports
  • Bible stories
  • Drama
  • Puppets
  • Singing
  • Birthday Party, Carnival, Talent Show
  • Activities centers such as crafts, wood-working, games, dress up, face painting and more.

What children are eligible for camp?
  • Children must be ages 7 - 11.
  • There must be a history of abuse, neglect or abandonment.
  • Foster children automatically qualify.
  • An official camp application must be submitted.

It should be noted that due to overwhelming need, not all children applying can be accepted. Approximately 48 children will attend our 2008 camp. Once a child has been accepted, a registration fee of $10 per family is required. No other fees will be charged.

How do you apply for camp?

Foster parents may apply on behalf of children in foster care by completing an RFKC Omaha Camper Application. For additional information, foster parents may contact Jennie Thengvall, our child placement coordinator, at 402-573-9379
