Counselors: The primary role of a counselor at RFKC is to care and cheer for their campers as they walk alongside them through the daily activities of camp. Each counselor is assigned two campers and a buddy counselor for the week. Together, the two counselors and their 4 campers, enjoy all that camp has to offer. They share the excitement of their own cabin, meals together at the dining hall, swimming at the pool or lake, a climbing tower and zipline, creative projects, special evening events, as well as music, drama, and puppet presentations. Counselors have the special privilege of building close relationships with their 2 campers. The counselor role requires energy, patience, love, and a willingness to look beyond your own needs in order to wholeheartedly serve the children in your care. Counselors have two 90 minute breaks each day - midmorning and late evening. Staff: The main role of the staff at RFKC is to 1) run the camp programs and activities and 2) support the counselors by assisting them throughout the day and caring for the kids at counselor break times. Specific jobs include leading music, taking photos or video, setting up crafts and activities, leading group games, fishing, woodworking, providing extra help at swimming, participating in the drama, and helping with laundry. Staff volunteers get to know many of the campers as they interact with them at different activities. They also get to form special friendships with the campers assigned to them at counselor break times. The staff role requires a servant's heart, flexibility, patience, love, and a willingness to be a self-starter and hardworker as you look for opportunities to contribute and encourage others throughout the week. Staff have a 30 minute break midday and are asked to take other breaks when it seems appropriate and needed. |
