Royal Family Kids’ Camp Omaha was founded in 2003 with a heart for serving abused and neglected children in the Omaha area. Founding directors, Mark and Jennie Thengvall, worked with a dedicated group of volunteers to establish rapport with social services, recruit and train volunteers, and raise adequate funding to launch the first RFKC Omaha summer camp in June of 2004. Since that time RFKC Omaha has continued to grow in service to the foster children of the Omaha area. Each year a compassionate group of local volunteers provide a week full of positive memories for the special children who attend camp. RFKC Omaha also has the honor of being chosen as one of five Director Training Sites for the national RFKC organization. As new directors learn the basics of camp operation by observing our program, we are launching them toward service in their own local communities! Royal Family Kids’ Camp has convinced us of the long-term impact that positive relationships can have on abused children. Each summer we interact with campers who are anxious to continue growing their relationships with caring volunteers, with a loving God, and with each other. In an effort to deepen those relationships, we have partnered with Brookside Church to establish the Camper Connect Mentoring Program. This program, established in 2007, trains and monitors volunteers from our summer camps as year-round mentors to the kids in our programs. Mentors make monthly connections with their camper friends, going to ball games, doing a favorite hobby, serving in the community, and learning life lessons along the way. |
